Call day moves fast. Starting at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, firms phone the students they want to see, and most calls are over within half an hour. This planner keeps your ranked list and your in-firm week in one place, so you can book slots without double-booking or leaving yourself no time to travel. It runs in your browser, saves as you go, and nothing is uploaded.

    Plan your in-firm week

List firms in your order of preference. As each one calls, pick the day and time. Your list stays in this browser and is never uploaded.

    How to use the planner

    1. The night before, list your firms in order. Put the firm you most want at the top. When two firms call at once, or offer the same slot, your list tells you which to protect.
    2. Set your buffer. Choose how much time you need between interviews to travel and reset. Thirty minutes suits firms a short walk apart downtown. Use more if you need transit or an elevator queue at a large tower.
    3. As each firm calls, pick the day and start time. Change the length if the firm tells you the interview runs longer than 90 minutes, or if it includes lunch.
    4. Watch the flags. A red border means two interviews overlap, or a Wednesday slot runs past 3:00 p.m. An amber border means the gap is shorter than your buffer.
    5. Save it where you will see it. Add the booked interviews to your calendar, print the week, or copy a link to your phone. The link holds your whole list, so only send it to people you trust.

Booking slots well on call day

    • Allow at least 90 minutes per interview, plus travel. The Law Society's procedures ask students to allow at least 90 minutes for each in-firm interview, and many run longer. The planner uses 90 minutes unless you change it.
    • Keep room for return visits. Firms often invite students back for a second or third interview later in the week, so do not fill every slot at once, especially around your top choices.
    • Spread the rest across the days. Three or four interviews on one day is tiring, and it leaves no time for a firm that asks you back.
    • Answer quickly, but do not guess. If a slot clashes, say so and ask for another time. Firms expect it, and calls usually wrap up by about 8:30 a.m., according to Gowling WLG's interview guide.
    • Keep your phone charged and your email open. Some firms email instead of calling, and students report that a few call later in the morning (Canadian Law Forum).

    After you book

Once your week is set, read our guides to in-firm interviews and in-firm week etiquette, and prepare a few questions to ask each firm. If your phone stays quiet on call day, read what to do next. The full call day walkthrough is in our 2L call day guide.

    Your privacy

The planner saves your list in this browser only. Nothing you type is sent to Lateral Law Report. A share link carries your list inside the link itself, so anyone you send it to can see your firms and times. Clear the planner with Start over when you are done.
