    Lateral market · Updated October 25, 2026

    Who moved, and where.

Partner, counsel, and group moves between Canadian law firms, taken from public announcements and updated every week.

This tracker lists partners, counsel, and whole teams who joined a Canadian private practice firm since September 1, 2026. Each entry links to the announcement it came from. We show the previous firm only when the announcement or the lawyer's firm biography names it, so a blank means the firm did not say, not that the move was a first job. Associate hires and new calls are left out. The Weekly Brief covers the notable moves each week.

These counts come from public announcements, which favour Toronto firms and firms that publicize their hires. Many moves are never announced, so read the tracker as a sample of the market rather than a census.

    03How we build it

    Sources and corrections.

We read firm news pages, Law360 Canada, Lexpert, Law Times, and Precedent's lawyer announcements each week. An entry needs a public announcement naming the lawyer, the firm they joined, and their role. Returning lawyers are included and marked. Judicial appointments, in-house moves, and non-lawyer hires are not.

If a move is missing or a detail is wrong, email will@laterallawreport.com with a link to the announcement and we will update the entry. Read more about our methodology.
